BONGO RX NASAL EPAP THERAPY
Sleep Apnea Therapy Without a Machine, Hose, or Full-Face Mask
Bongo Rx is an FDA-cleared, prescription treatment for adults with mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea. It is a small, reusable nasal device that uses Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure, or EPAP, to help keep the airway open during sleep.
At Gulf Coast Sleep Specialist, Bongo Rx is not treated as a one-size-fits-all retail product. It is incorporated into a clinician-led, diagnosis-driven treatment plan based on the patient’s home sleep study, breathing pattern, airway condition, sleep quality, symptoms, and individual needs.
How Does Bongo Rx Work?
Bongo Rx contains small one-way valves that fit gently inside the nostrils. The valves open during inhalation, allowing you to breathe in normally. During exhalation, they create gentle resistance and positive airway pressure. This pressure helps support the airway and reduce its tendency to narrow or collapse during sleep.

Unlike CPAP or APAP, Bongo Rx:
Who May Benefit from Bongo Rx?
Bongo Rx may be considered for appropriately selected adults who:
- Have a confirmed diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea
- Prefer a small, mask-free treatment option
- Cannot comfortably tolerate CPAP or APAP
- Travel frequently or need a portable treatment
- Want to avoid a full-face mask, hose, or bedside machine
- Can breathe adequately through the nose
- Are willing to complete follow-up testing to verify treatment effectiveness
Bongo Rx is not appropriate for every patient.
Treatment selection should be based on proper testing and clinical evaluation—not symptoms or snoring alone.
Our Clinician-Directed Bongo Rx Program
Successful treatment involves more than simply receiving the device. Our program may include:
Comfort is treatment—but comfort alone does not prove that sleep apnea is controlled.
Follow-up sleep testing allows us to see whether Bongo Rx is adequately supporting breathing and sleep.
Bongo Rx and Nasal Breathing
Because Bongo Rx works through the nose, comfortable and consistent nasal breathing is essential. Patients may need help improving nasal airflow, reducing mouth breathing, and becoming comfortable with the sensation of expiratory resistance.
When appropriate, we combine Bongo Rx with breathing re-education and other supportive measures to improve treatment comfort, adherence, and effectiveness.
An Alternative—Not a Compromise
Bongo Rx may provide selected patients with an effective alternative to machine-based therapy. However, the best treatment is the treatment that adequately controls the patient’s sleep-disordered breathing and can be used consistently.
If Bongo Rx does not provide sufficient control, Dr. Todd will discuss other treatment options, including APAP therapy or oral appliance therapy. The goal is not simply to use the smallest device. The goal is to achieve healthier breathing and more restorative sleep.
Could Bongo Rx Be Right for You?
The first step is determining what is happening during your sleep. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Steven E. Todd to discuss home sleep testing and whether Bongo Rx should be considered as part of your individualized treatment plan.
